Hearing Evaluations

For Adults:

At your initial appointment, a comprehensive hearing evaluation will be performed in order to determine the cause of your hearing difficulties and rule out serious health conditions that need medical attention. A comprehensive hearing evaluation includes:

  • Tympanometry – This type of test which measures air pressure changes through the middle ear and checks for presence of fluid or a hole in the ear drum.
  • Pure-Tone Audiometry – A behavioral test that is used to gauge the softest sound that you can hear in varying frequencies. Each ear is tested separately.
  • Bone-Conduction Testing – An electromechanical earphone is placed on the skull. This allows for stimulation of the cochlea via mechanical vibration of the skull with almost no stimulation of the outer and middle ear.
  • Speech Audiometry – Is used to assess your ability to comprehend speech and recognize words.

For Children:

We will modify behavioral test protocols based on the individual child’s responsiveness, and we work to make the hearing evaluation a fun, positive experience for all.
