Hearing Tests in Radford and Floyd, VA
Have you noticed it’s harder to hear than it used to be? Do you often ask people to repeat what they said? Can you no longer notice the hum of the refrigerator or the birds outside? These are all signs that it may be time to have your hearing tested.
Hearing tests are the best way to determine your hearing ability and if you are impacted by hearing loss. We offer comprehensive hearing evaluations and tests at both our Radford and Floyd offices. Our hearing specialists help adults of all ages identify hearing loss and find a suitable management option to help them hear better.
What to Expect During A Hearing Test
To begin your hearing evaluation, we will always perform an otoscopic examination of the inside of your ears to determine if impacted earwax is the cause of your hearing impairment. If you do have a build-up of earwax that is impacting your hearing, we can safely remove it before we proceed with the rest of the exam.
We will then perform a series of hearing tests, including a word recognition test to assess how well you can understand speech in noise and quiet. During these tests you will sit in one of our sound proof booths with a pair of headphones on. Every time you hear a sound (a beep for example), we will have you signal to us by raising your hand.
We will record the results of your hearing test on an audiogram, which will show us how your hearing loss affects you. Hearing loss is measured as mild, moderate, moderately severe, severe, and profound. Once we know the degree of loss then we will talk to you about your listening lifestyle and what your goals are.
