Mature man getting his hearing aids repaired

Hearing Aid Repairs

You rely on your hearing aids every day to provide you with the sounds of your loved ones and environment. If your hearing aid doesn’t sound quite the way it used to, there may be an internal issue with your device. At New River Valley Hearing, our hearing specialists can repair most issues or, if necessary, send your hearing aid to the manufacturer for more complex repairs.

Troubleshooting At Home

If you are experiencing weak or distorted sound from your hearing aids, try these troubleshooting techniques at home.

  • Check the battery: First check to make sure you have a fresh battery in your hearing aid, sometimes distorted sound can be caused by a weak battery.
  • Replace the wax guard: Try replacing the wax guard on your hearing aid as it may be clogged with wax or debris, affecting the sound quality.
  • Turn them off, then back on: To turn your hearing aid off, simply open the battery door completely. Remove the battery and re-insert it, then turn the aid back on.

If you are still experiencing a problem with the sound quality of your hearing aid after trying these tips, contact our office. We can troubleshoot the problem and fix most issues the same day.

Common Hearing Aid Repairs

We can handle most hearing aid repairs at either of our office locations. Some common hearing aid repairs we see that can easily be addressed in office include:

  • Fixing microphones
  • Changing wax guards
  • Simple cleanings
  • Adjusting settings on the aid
  • General troubleshooting

If your hearing aid has suffered more severe damage, such as water damage or they were dropped, we may have to send them to the manufacturer. Since these types of repairs can take time, we can provide you with loaner aids while you wait for your devices to be fixed.
